Description
Amar-ola is our specialty made with as much amaranth as oats. We use fresh fruit as well as dried fruit, which may lend a chewier consistency. Unlike most grains, amaranth, like quinoa, is one of the few grains that is considered to be a “complete protein”, which means that it contains all 9 essential amino acids that our body needs to function properly. Most whole grains are missing one or more of these amino acids to make them complete, and need to be combined with other incomplete protein sources like another grain, beans, nuts or seeds, to make them complete. Protein sources that contain all the essential amino acids are mostly found in animal foods such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy. Furthermore, this power grain is a great source of fiber and extremely low in fat. Dry fruits and chia seeds give these bars even more added fiber, and the honey lends a chewy consistency making them ideal for an afternoon snack.
The sweeteners we use other than fruit are coconut sugar and honey. Coconut sugar is richer in iron, zinc, calcium, and potassium, and is produced in a simple two step process that involves collecting the sap from the flower of the coconut palm and heating it until most of the water has evaporated. We use extra virgin or expeller pressed oils, which means no chemicals are used in extraction.
Refrigerate for a more crunchy texture, or leave it out for a chewier one.
